The L-1 visa allows certain individuals to transfer to the U.S. to work for the petitioning employer where they have been employed by a related overseas entity for at least one year out of the past three.

The foreign national must have performed work as an executive or manager (L-1A) or in a specialized knowledge capacity (L-1B) at the entity abroad, and must be coming to the U.S. to work as an executive or manager or as a specialized knowledge employee.

The L-1 visa requires sponsorship by a U.S. employer.
