State Department Provides Guidance on National Interest Exceptions to Presidential Proclamations Suspending Entry of Immigrants and Nonimmigrants

August 12, 2020

The Department of State has provided updated guidance on the reasons for travel to the U.S. which may be considered to be in the national interest, and therefore exempt from the bans imposed by Presidential Proclamations issued earlier this year.

This latest guidance appears to include a wider group of individuals than previously identified, which will be good news for certain individuals seeking to return to the U.S.

Weaver Schlenger is reviewing this guidance, and how the guidance will be implemented across all Consulates and Embassies.
