Partner Laura J. Mazel Publishes Op Ed on Immigration Executive Action in SF Recorder

November 17, 2014

In a November 17 Viewpoint article published by the San Francisco Recorder, WSM Partner Laura J. Mazel sums up what tech and other employers may expect from President Obama with executive action on immigration reform before year end, when the president promises to protect DREAM Act kids and other families in long need of comprehensive immigration reform. Mr. Obama has openly challenged Republicans to pass immigration reform to then “supercede” his action.

Ms. Mazel’s sum up: expect work authorization for spouses for H-1B workers who are far enough along in the green card process (and demand by candidates to start the green card process sooner); clarifying that dependents should not count towards the annual green card quota; and having a faster track for work authorization for STEM degree holders. Ms. Mazel also cautions employers to expect sticks along with the carrots with I-9 compliance. To read Ms. Mazel’s essay, click here.
