Exploring Immigration and Finding Purpose: A Personal Reflection for WSM’s 30th Anniversary
April 22, 2025 / Ruby Patterson / 30th Anniversary Posts
I’ve long imagined immigration could be my driving force in some way, but I wasn’t completely sure if a legal career was for me as an undergraduate. So as a recent graduate, I was very excited to join WSM as a Paralegal and get first-hand experience in this field at a distinguished women-led firm.
Throughout my tenure here, I've learnt so much from WSM staff and attorneys about immigration law, client service, and confronting an arcane & opaque government system with a united, multi-party team. This mentorship has really inspired me to begin law school this fall, where I'm hoping to soon direct sound legal strategies myself, challenge broken processes, and protect our communities.
WSM has been instrumental in aligning my career goals. Crucially, many of our beneficiary clients can say the same. We frequently receive gracious, positive feedback from those we assist with employment-based visas, who are consequently able to develop fulfilling careers and lives in the United States. And of course, when they thrive here, their employers tend to as well. WSM has an impressive 30-year track record of these great results, and we plan to carry our diamond anniversary qualities of transparency and perseverance through many more.
