Stephanie Corinna Smith has significant experience in employment and family-based immigration as well as removal defense and asylum law.  As an Associate Attorney at Weaver Schlenger Mazel LLP, Ms. Smith works with corporations, individuals, universities, and research institutes to secure H, B, O, J, L, and TN visas for foreign national employees, trainees, scholars, and exchange visitors.  She specializes in obtaining permanent residency for scientists, artists, and business people based on their extraordinary ability or outstanding research.  Ms. Smith was recently featured as a guest speaker on Larry Olson’s Job Radio Show, where she discussed immigration issues facing these exceptionally skilled foreign born workers.  Ms. Smith also leads the firm’s “Emerging Companies” practice, and has extensive experience counseling small, startup companies in obtaining non-immigrant visa status for essential foreign workers.  ABC News recently featured an interview with Ms. Smith regarding her work in this area. 

Ms. Smith has also litigated family-based adjustment of status, asylum, cancellation of removal, and criminal-related immigration cases in immigration courts and at the appellate level. Additionally, Ms. Smith has experience analyzing the impact of a criminal conviction on the immigration status of a foreign national and in defending criminal cases in both the state and federal courts.  Ms. Smith’s diverse experiences in immigration law allow her to approach each case with a comprehensive understanding of a client’s best options. 

Ms. Smith currently serves as Advocacy Co-Chair for the American Immigration Lawyers Association Northern California Chapter.  She is a frequent volunteer at La Raza Centro Legal’s immigration clinic in San Francisco and also mentors pro-bono attorneys representing clients in asylum proceedings.   Ms. Smith is a graduate of Vassar College, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies in 2001.  She was awarded her law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2006.  Ms. Smith is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
