Our nation is a nation of immigrants and our strength is derived from the immigrants who become U.S citizens. The ultimate step in the long and frequently tortuous path of U.S. immigration is the application for naturalization. Weaver, Schlenger & Mazel takes pride in assisting individuals from around the world to become U.S. citizens*. We have represented professionals who obtained permanent residence through their employment, field workers who gained permanent residence through the Special Agricultural Worker program, asylees and refugees, and individuals who immigrated through their family members.
We have aided lawful permanent residents with criminal convictions who yearned to become citizens. We have represented those who were too elderly and disabled to pass the test of U.S. history and government, as well as those who had no real issues in their case, but felt more comfortable in having an attorney to prepare and represent them at this final interview. By filing carefully evaluated and well-prepared applications for naturalization, we have assisted our clients in keeping the application on track and in overcoming immigration obstacles such as allegedly false testimony, criminal convictions and language difficulties.
Weaver, Schlenger & Mazel also has expertise in derivative citizenship cases. With our assistance, children or grandchildren born overseas or in Canada or Mexico, whose parent or parents or grandparents were United States citizens, have successfully established their U.S. citizenship. By digging back into family and government records, our clients have been able to successfully document their claim to citizenship and effectively present the necessary evidence to the appropriate U.S. government authorities.
Our representation includes thoroughly evaluating the case and advising the client about the issues and chances of success. We prepare and file the naturalization or derivative citizenship application, including all related forms and supporting documents. We advise what will occur in advance of the interview and ensure that our clients are well prepared. We attend and represent our clients at the immigration interview.
Assisting a client in becoming a United States citizen is in many ways the most rewarding immigration service that we provide. The importance of U.S. citizenship and the pride and power that an individual feels upon obtaining that status at the end of many years of hard work, brings us immense satisfaction.
* The terms and scope of our representation for each separate matter are set forth in our retainer agreement, which is signed prior to the start of any legal work. |
